Vintage 1988

PROFILE

Château de Fargues 1988 :  The most classically elegant of the 88-89-90 trilogy. A late-ripening year with a remarkable Indian summer that saved the day.

François Amirault, Operations Manager at Château de Fargues

HARVEST

A wet (400 mm of precipitation in three months), mild winter led into a spring that was also very rainy. The beginning of the year was thus rather difficult, made all the more so by a drought period lasting several months beginning in June. Flowering took place under excellent conditions. A fine summer with especially hot, dry weather in early autumn produced perfectly ripe grapes by 25th September.
However, the dryness was not very conducive to the development of botrytis, so it was necessary to wait until mid-October when, thanks to a few mists, the first botrytised grapes were able to be picked.
